What We're Building
The SHIT Foundation is a nonprofit media literacy project built around a simple, memorable framework that teaches anyone to spot manipulation in any media - left, right, or center. We believe critical media consumption is a skill that should be taught as universally as reading and writing.
We're not incorporated yet. To file as a 501(c)(3), we need a board of at least 3 members. We have 1. We need 2 more.
This is a ground-floor opportunity. You'd be a founding board member of a nonprofit with a viral-ready concept, a live website, and a clear mission. We're looking for people who care about media literacy and want to help build something meaningful - not people looking for a resume line.
What We're Looking For
- Belief in the mission. You think media manipulation is a real problem and that education (not censorship) is the answer.
- Diverse perspectives. We specifically want board members who consume different media and hold different political views. That's the whole point of SHIT - it works across the spectrum.
- Nonprofit experience is a plus but not required. If you've filed a 501(c)(3) before or served on a board, that's incredibly valuable.
- Legal, education, or media background is a plus. Teachers, journalists, lawyers, and media professionals bring perspectives we need.
- Time commitment: ~2-4 hours/month for board duties once established. More during the initial incorporation phase.
What Board Members Do
- Help file 501(c)(3) paperwork and establish bylaws
- Provide strategic guidance on programs and content
- Ensure the framework stays nonpartisan (this is critical)
- Help with fundraising and grant applications
- Represent the foundation at events and in the community
- Keep us accountable to our mission
